| حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ , قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ , قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : يَقُولُ النَّاسُ أَكْثَرَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ، فَلَقِيتُ رَجُلًا , فَقُلْتُ : ” بِمَا قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْبَارِحَةَ فِي الْعَتَمَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ : لَا أَدْرِي ، فَقُلْتُ : لَمْ تَشْهَدْهَا ؟ قَالَ : بَلَى ، قُلْتُ : لَكِنْ أَنَا أَدْرِي ، قَرَأَ سُورَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ” . |

| ´ہم سے محمد بن مثنی نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے عثمان بن عمر نے کہا کہ مجھے ابن ابی ذئب نے خبر دی، انہیں سعید مقبری نے کہ` ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ ابوہریرہ بہت زیادہ حدیثیں بیان کرتا ہے (اور حال یہ ہے کہ) میں ایک شخص سے ایک مرتبہ ملا اور اس سے میں نے (بطور امتحان) دریافت کیا کہ گزشتہ رات نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عشاء میں کون کون سی سورتیں پڑھی تھیں؟ اس نے کہا کہ مجھے نہیں معلوم۔ میں نے پوچھا کہ تم نماز میں شریک تھے؟ کہا کہ ہاں شریک تھا۔ میں نے کہا لیکن مجھے تو یاد ہے کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فلاں فلاں سورتیں پڑھی تھیں۔ |

| Narrated Abu Huraira: People say that I narrate too many narrations of the Prophet; once I met a man (during the lifetime of the Prophet) and asked him, “Which Sura did Allah’s Apostle s recite yesterday in the `Isha’ prayer?” He said, “I do not know.” I said, “Did you not attend the prayer?” He said, “Yes, (I did).” I said, “I know. He recited such and such Sura.” |
