| حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَوْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ : ” أَحَبُّ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صَلَاةُ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ، وَأَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ ، وَكَانَ يَنَامُ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ وَيَقُومُ ثُلُثَهُ وَيَنَامُ سُدُسَهُ ، وَيَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا ” . |

| ´ہم سے علی بن عبداللہ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے سفیان بن عیینہ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے عمرو بن دینار نے بیان کیا کہ عمرو بن اوس نے انہیں خبر دی اور انہیں عبداللہ بن عمرو بن العاص رضی اللہ عنہما نے خبر دی کہ` رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان سے فرمایا کہ سب نمازوں میں اللہ تعالیٰ کے نزدیک پسندیدہ نماز داؤد علیہ السلام کی نماز ہے اور روزوں میں بھی داؤد علیہ السلام ہی کا روزہ۔ آپ آدھی رات تک سوتے، اس کے بعد تہائی رات نماز پڑھنے میں گزارتے۔ پھر رات کے چھٹے حصے میں بھی سو جاتے۔ اسی طرح آپ ایک دن روزہ رکھتے اور ایک دن افطار کرتے تھے۔ |

| Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As: Allah’s Apostle told me, “The most beloved prayer to Allah is that of David and the most beloved fasts to Allah are those of David. He used to sleep for half of the night and then pray for one third of the night and again sleep for its sixth part and used to fast on alternate days.” |
